Lent - Day 14

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation.

MORNING READING - PSALM 62

1For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
2He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall never be shaken.

3How long will you assail a person,
will you batter your victim, all of you,
as you would a leaning wall, a tottering fence?
4Their only plan is to bring down a person of prominence.
They take pleasure in falsehood;
they bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse.
Selah

5For God alone my soul waits in silence,
for my hope is from him.
6He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.
7On God rests my deliverance and my honour;
my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.

8Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us.
Selah

9Those of low estate are but a breath,
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
10Put no confidence in extortion,
and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

11Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
12 and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.
For you repay to all
according to their work.

MORNING REFLECTION

READY : Psalm 62:1 states, “For God alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation.” Sit alone in silence and focus your thoughts and heart on God, your rock and salvation.

READ: Read the text through twice. When you read through this slowly the second time, allow the Lord to speak to you what you need to hear.

REFLECT: Reflect on verse 7, “On God rests my deliverance and my honour; my mighty rock, my refuge is in God.” Allow the Lord to become your mighty Rock so that you cannot be shaken.

REPENT: Frequently we set up other things to be our steady ground and protection instead of God. Repent of the times you have not put your trust in God.

REJOICE: Rejoice “that power belongs to God and steadfast love belongs to you, O Lord.”

EVENING READING Mark 3:20-35

20 Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21 When his family [c] heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind." 22 And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebul! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons." 23 So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? 24 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26 And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27 In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man's house. 28 Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven all their sins and all the blasphemies they utter. 29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, but is guilty of an eternal sin." 30 He said this because they were saying, "He has an evil spirit." 31 Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him. 32 A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you." 33 "Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked. 34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."

EVENING REFLECTION

READY : Sit quietly and ask God and his peace to come. Allow all of the cares of the day to fall away as you center your thoughts on God and his Word.

READ: Read through this text once and then slowly the second time to begin to dissect the parable Jesus tells.

REFLECT: Reflect on the parable of the house divided. Jesus warns us about divisions of purpose. Reflect on areas of division you see in your own life and in partnerships you are involved with.

REPENT: In the same way that a house divided cannot stand, a person divided cannot stand. Repent of those things that bring division in your life between doing the will of God and doing your own will.

REJOICE: Rejoice that there is unity in the family of God among those who do the will of the Father.
