MORNING REFLECTION
READY: Psalm 107 is a psalm of praise for those who have been rescued by God. Prepare to read this psalm by thinking of the many times that God has rescued you.
READ: Read the psalm twice letting faith rise for the ways you need to be rescued.
REFLECT: Today’s reading is a portion of Psalm 107. When you read the entire psalm, you find that four times the psalmist writes, “They they cried to the Lord in their trouble and He delivered them from their distress. “ God’s deliverance is preceded by God’s people calling out to Him. Meditate on this truth and then take time to cry out to God.
REPENT: “Some sat in darkness and in gloom...for they had rebelled against the words of God and spurned the counsel of the Most High.” Repent for rebelling against God’s word and counsel.
REJOICE: Thank God for His steadfast love and for His repeated deliverance.
EVENING READING Mark 9:2-13
2 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one* on earth could bleach them. 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5Then Peter said to Jesus, ‘Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings,* one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ 6He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved;* listen to him!’ 8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. 10So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead could mean. 11Then they asked him, ‘Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?’ 12He said to them, ‘Elijah is indeed coming first to restore all things. How then is it written about the Son of Man, that he is to go through many sufferings and be treated with contempt? 13But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written about him.’
The Death of John the Baptist
*EVENING REFLECTION
READY: Envision Peter, James and John as they are up on the mountain and see Jesus transfigured before them.
READ: Read the passage twice, once for the meaning, and the second time picturing Jesus transfigured.
REFLECT: Twice God the Father thunders these words from heaven, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to Him!” The first time was at Jesus’ baptism and here as Jesus is transfigured. Meditate on these words from the Father. Allow for a time of quiet and spend some time listening to Jesus as the Father instructed.
REPENT: Repent of the ways you have not listened to Jesus. He has been speaking to you during this lenten season, LISTEN TO HIM!
REJOICE: Praise God for the ways that He has glorified His Son. Worthy is the Lord Jesus Christ to receive glory and honor!
